The clubs are separated into boys and girls teams for dual meet competition in the age groups 8 and under, 10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under, and unlimited. Meets are on selected Saturdays beginning in November and culminating with Championships in February.
The swimmer’s or diver’s age on October 31st shall be his or her competition age for the entire season.
U.S. Swimming and U.S. Diving rules apply for all competition. A complete description of technique and rules is available upon request. If interested, please contact a board member.
Participants are limited to three individual events and one relay, or two individual events and two relays. Diving counts as an individual event. There is a freestyle relay and a medley relay for each age group. The order of the strokes in the medley relay is backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle.
A swimmer’s second false start disqualifies the swimmer from that event.

Occasionally, unofficial events are run in order to allow all team members the opportunity to swim at each meet. These events are not included in the scoring, but the children are not generally made aware of this. All times are recorded for championship placement.
Competing teams use alternating lanes: the home team in lanes 1, 3 and 5; the visiting team in lanes 2, 4 and 6. In relay events, only lanes 3 and 4 are official.
Scoring system:
Individual events: 6,4,3,2,1 points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th places
(maximum scorers per team = 3)
Relay events: 8,4,2 points for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places
(maximum scorers per
team = 2).
Scoring system for tri-meets will not change.
All diving is performed from a one meter springboard.
11 and under and 14 and under divers perform four dives at each meet. Unlimited divers perform five dives. (Divers who are 11 may compete in all three diving events.) Divers who are 14 or under may compete in 14 and under and the unlimited events at a single meet by performing all nine dives. Each age group counts as an individual event.
Five judges are used for diving. The high and low scores are eliminated and the award for each dive is calculated by totaling the remaining three scores and multiplying by the degree of difficulty for the dive performed.
DESCRIPTION OF SAL MEETS:
Regular Season Meets The bulk of the season consists of five dual meets. Dual means that the meets involve teams from two clubs. Each team swims and dives against all of the other teams in the same division of SAL. One weekend of dual meets each season consists of crossover meets, crossover meaning that opponent teams are from different divisions of the SAL. Teams scheduled as crossover opponents had similar records during the previous season. Team records determine the format for the SAL conference and league dual meet championships.
The Flight Dual Meet Championships are divided into two meets: dual meet conference championship and league dual meet championship. First, the dual meet conference championship opponent is the team in the same place in the other division of the conference. The winner of that meet moves on to compete against the winner of the other conference in the league dual meet championship. The runner up of the conference dual meet championship competes against the other runner up in the consolation league dual meet championship. Note: UDAC athletes must have competed in at least 40% of dual meets to be eligible to participate in flight dual meet championships.
League and Division Championships are individual competitions (no team scoring, but there are relays) Note: Athletes must have competed in at least 40% of dual meets to be eligible for League Championships. All UDAC swimmers, including pre-team athletes, are eligible to participate in Division Championships. NOTE: iLeague Swimming Championships are also designated as "A Champs" and Divisional Swimming Championships as "B Champs".
Mike Kennedy Memorial League Swimming Championships are held at LaSalle University. This meet is the league individual championships and only swimmers with the top times in the entire league will be compete in each event (18 plus, 2 alternates). Coaches notify swimmers of their entry after the league seed meetings, which occur following the League Dual Meet Championships and Last Chance meets.
Central Division Swimming Championships: Each division holds a championship meet. UDAC is in the Central Division. ALL swimmers/divers are eligible for Division Championships (but cannot swim in events for which they qualified for League Championships). Swimmers should select their three favorite events. Swimmers are seeded according to their best times for a particular event. NOTE: UDAC's annual league dues are determined in part by the # of entries at Divisional Championship meets. Do not sign up if you are not going to attend!
Diving Championships: League Diving Champs are held on the same weekend as League Swimming Championships. Divers with the top scores in the SAL can qualify to compete in Diving "A" Champs . Coaches notify divers of their entry after the league seed meetings, which occur following the League Dual Meet Championships and Last Chance meets. Division Diving "B" Championships are open to all divers and are usually held on the prior weekend, at one location, with the results for each event determined by division.

Invitational ("Trophy") Meets: Throughout the season there are a number of invitational/trophy meets hosted by SAL teams. These are often held on Sundays and are open to any league member. There is a small fee per event and (as always) a limit on the number of events that can be entered. Swimmers may choose the events in which they swim. These meets are considered "extras" by most teams, which are entirely optional. Invitational meets are sanctioned by SAL, meaning that times from these meets are considered in the seedings for championships. Most invitational meets require that swimmers sign-up to swim in the meet 3 or 4 weeks prior to the meet. Team reps receive information about these meets from the host team.
