Kate’s swimming career is marked by accomplishments across age-group, high school and collegiate levels.   She started swimming competitively at age four for Manorlu Swim Club and Abington Dolphins, competing for Lower Moreland Swimming & Diving in Middle Atlantic Junior Olympics and Senior Meets from 1991 to 1996.  Her family moved to Upper Dublin and she competed on the Upper Dublin High School (UDHS) girls swim team.

Kate qualified and competed both individually and on relays at Districts and States on the UDHS swim team (freshman through senior years), earning seven District I and four state medals.  She was a key member of the record-setting District I Champion and PIAA State Champion 200 medley and 400 free relays, leading UDHS girls swim team to a AA PIAA State Championship in 1993.  Repeat performances led to another State Championship Team in 1994.  She received League & District (4 years) and State Honors (3 years), All-American honorable mention and was published in “Who’s Who Among American High School Athletes” in 1996.  The UDHS 200 Medley Relay record she helped set in 1993 still stands.

Kate continued swimming at La Salle University. After suffering a shoulder injury early in her freshman season, she recovered to swim in the A-10 Championships in 1997.  The following season, Kate was hired as La Salle’s Woman’s Assistant Coach, resulting in one of her top experiences as a fully-credentialed coach at the 1998 Women’s NCAA Division I Championships (at the time the fastest women’s meet in the history of swimming - Misty Hyman competed!)  “To be on deck with Misty plus my coaching idols (Shubert, Kenney, Baurle) and interact with them was amazing.  It formed my coaching philosophy and drive.”

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Justice and Political Science, Kate worked as a forensic investigation intern in the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office which led to a position in 2003 with Delaware County as an adult probation and parole officer, which she held until 2008.  Kate is currently working towards a graduate degree in secondary education at Cabrini College.

In parallel with her “daytime job” Kate was the Head Coach and President of Hawk Hill Swim Team, a USA Swimming club located in Merion, PA, for ten years.  As Program Director her responsibilities included designing & implementing workouts; scheduling coaches, practices, and meets; supervising three assistant coaches, and managing finances and budget for club.   During this tenure (1998-2008) Kate coached a two-time Speedo Sectional qualifier, several Junior Olympic qualifiers, a Senior 50/100 free Champion and Senior National qualifier.  Two of her swimmers were invited to train at the Olympic Training Facility in Colorado.  She has been a certified USA Swimming coach for thirteen years.

In addition, from 1999 to 2009, Kate was Head Coach of Merion Mercy Academy’s swim team.  During her tenure, she coached four District I champions, four PIAA State finalists, a PIAA State champion, and was the Athletic Association of Catholic Academy’s League Representative to the District I PIAA Steering Committee.  Kate also coached the Waldron Academy swim Team (2002 to 2008; responsible for 30 elementary school students).

Kate has held several positions at Manorlu Swim Club (1994 through 1999) including lifeguard, head lifeguard, assistant swim coach, head swim coach and assistant manager, and currently manages summer programs at the Upper Dublin Community Pool and UDHS Natatorium for Upper Dublin Township and School District.

Kate still holds the eight & under girls 25 meter freestyle mark at Manorlu Swim Club, a 23-year-old record!
