Geoff Scheuer, UDAC Head Coach, has over a decade's worth of coaching experience already in his young life, starting as a swimmer/coach for Manorlu Swim Club the summer after graduating from Upper Dublin High School – where he was team captain his senior year. Geoff served as assistant at Manorlu for two summers, and in the fall of 1999 became an assistant for both Upper Dublin Aquatic Club and the Upper Dublin high school boy’s team. Geoff would serve as an assistant for UDAC for six years before becoming Head SAL Boys Team Coach in the fall of 2005. At the high school level, Geoff was an unpaid volunteer assistant for his first three years, before moving up to paid assistant, where he remains today.
In the years Geoff has been a coach, all 3 of the programs he is involved with have grown in size and talent immeasurably. In his first six seasons as head coach with Manorlu, the team grew from 85 to 190+ swimmers, and from a perennial 3rd place finish to its first undefeated championship season since 1964 (that was in ’06). A feat the team repeated this past summer. The team has also won the league sportsmanship award twice during his tenure. Along the way, members of the team have set or broken 40+ team records, and 3 league records. Most importantly, the team has gained an identity and pride which had not been seen in a long while.
With UDAC, Geoff has been there for the most successful seasons of the program’s history, which dates to 1968. In his nine years as both assistant and head coach, the team has risen from the middle of the 22 team league to top 5 finishes in each of the past five seasons. Team members have won multiple individual and relay events at the SAL A championship meet, and set over 30 team records (including 11 during the 2007-08 season alone), and 2 relay league records. Through the USA portion of UDAC (the Red Dragons), Geoff has coached swimmers to multiple Junior Olympic berths. During the 2007-08 season, the Red Dragons produced the very first individual Junior Olympic champion, the first Junior National Qualifiers, and the first nationally ranked age-group swimmer in the program’s history.
At the high school, the boys’ team has reached unprecedented levels of success in Geoff’s nine years. Several team records have been broken and re-broken during that time, and the team has become a true powerhouse in the state of Pennsylvania. During this time, the team has produced multiple All-Americans, Academic All-Americans, NCAA Division 1 swimmers, and the team GPA has consistently been among the highest in the school, state, and nation. At the conclusion of the 2007-08 season, the team dominated the PIAA District One championship meet, winning for the first time while ending North Penn’s streak of 19 straight victories. At that meet the team won all three relays and two individual events (including a 1-2 finish in the 100 backstroke). The team then placed 7th in the PIAA State Championship meet, which was the highest finish the team has ever achieved in the AAA division.
Though never a tremendous swimmer himself, Geoff has been on the deck for some of the fastest swimming in the history of this great township. As a result of that dichotomy, Geoff has seen both sides of the swimming world. Because of this, Geoff has gained an insight into the sport that allows him to believe in the potential of any and all swimmers, and he knows what it takes for those swimmers to reach that potential. Geoff has already dedicated a great deal of his life to Upper Dublin swimming, and looks forward to doing his part to ensure the continued growth of both the teams in UD, and the individuals that make up those teams.
In addition to coaching, Geoff, who graduated from West Chester University with a degree in Health and Physical Education, has worked as a substitute teacher in the Upper Dublin School District.
