Dan Smullen returns to Upper Dublin Aquatic Club as a coaching assistant
for the SAL boys team and year-round for the Red Dragons USA swimming
team.
Dan began swimming on UDAC’s pre-team at the age of 8 and participated
each winter until he graduated from Upper Dublin High School in 2005.
At Upper Dublin High School Dan improved his times each year, swimming
sprint freestyle events in addition to butterfly. In his sophomore
season he shared the teams Most Improved Swimmer Award after qualifying
for District Championships and States on a relay team. His junior
and senior seasons included individual trips to States, earning a State
medal and All-American Honors in the 50 freestyle as a senior.
Dan continued his swimming career at James Madison University. He
earned medals at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships and
began swimming breaststroke. At James Madison, he
volunteered as an instructor, teaching swim clinics for young swimmers
in the Shenandoah Valley. Dan graduated in May 2009 with a degree
in Marketing.
Dan has coached the summer swim team and provided stroke instruction at
Manufacturers’ Golf & Country Club. Dan was a swim team
member at Manorlu Swim Club.
